Dolch Sight Words – Keep teaching and revising these commonly used words. Make flashcards and play word games
Dolch words in sentences – How fast can the student read these sentences?
Reading Levels 12 – 20. Aim to reach Level 20 by the end of the year. Select resources on the Primary Literacy page.
Assessment
Mathematics Assessment: There are 3 mathematics tests to be completed over the year. These are found in the “Maths Cards”, the test being card 14 of each level. Keep a record of your child’s results.
Spelling Assessment: Run regular spelling tests. Test 5 words per week from each phonetic group you are teaching.
Reading Assessment: Learn how to use the “Running Records” testing system provided on the Beacon Media Primary Literacy page.
Writing Assessment: Make a folder of your child’s writing samples, in chronological order, so that you can see their progress.
The main goal for F – 3 is to learn to read. Thereafter, the student can read to learn.
