Additional needs
Tools for assisting children with additional needs must be drawn from a broad spectrum, taking into account social, emotional, educational and nutritional factors. There is no ‘one-size fits all’ when it comes to treatment. It can be overwhelming for parents of children with additional needs as they explore the many options and programs – many of which are very expensive.
We believe that in every case the nutritional needs MUST be addressed at the same time as behavioural and educational factors. If we look at the rising incidence of Autism, ADD/ADHD, Asperger Syndrome and similar learning disorders, it is obvious that we cannot turn a blind eye to the research on environmental factors, which affect our food, water, immediate environment and our physiology. Unbiased research in these areas is hard to find, so in this section of the Beacon Media website we are hoping to steer parents and teachers towards genuine sources worthy of investigation.
We would also like to encourage schools to be partners with parents in the education of their children. This may mean that in the future Christian schools have to raise their standards on healthful foods. It is unfair to additional needs children, who NEED to be on sugar-free / junk-food free diets, to be surrounded by children who eat sugar and junk food.
